Short answer: buy Govee if price matters most. Its color bulbs, strips and camera TV backlight cost roughly half of Hue's comparable products, and none need a hub. Buy Philips Hue if you want a whole-home system with a hub, local control, a longer warranty and switches and sensors in the same system. Price: Govee costs roughly half for comparable hardware
On like-for-like products, Govee's price is lower in every category except permanent outdoor lighting:
- Bulbs: Govee H6008 works out to about $8.25 per bulb in a 4-pack; Hue Essential A19 works out to about $15 per bulb. Both are rated at 800 lm.
- Strips: Govee Strip Light 2 at 16.4 ft is $49.99; Hue's Flux strip light at 16 ft is $99.99.
- TV: Govee's $109.99 kit includes the camera. The Hue camera route is two purchases ($119.99 + $179.99 for the 65" pro strip).
- Outdoor: Hue Festavia 90 ft is $399.99 and Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights Pro 100 ft is $439.99. Per foot and per light they are close, but Festavia requires a Hue Bridge, which adds $69.99 if you don't already own one.
The Hue Bridge adds $69.99 (or $139.99 for Bridge Pro) if you want the features below. Hue also sells starter kits that bundle a Bridge, for example the Hue White and Color A19 starter kit at $142.99 with two 60 W equivalent bulbs.
Hub and connectivity: Wi-Fi vs Zigbee
Govee lights connect straight to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and also use Bluetooth. No hub is needed, which keeps the entry price low. Each light is a separate device on your Wi-Fi network.
Philips Hue lights use Bluetooth and Zigbee. With Bluetooth only, Hue's own FAQ limits you to up to 10 lights per phone within about 10 meters, with basic routines and no remote access or entertainment sync. The Hue Bridge adds:
- Up to 50 lights and 12 accessories (Bridge Pro lists up to 150 lights and 50 accessories)

- Hue Sync entertainment features
- Matter for the whole Hue system
Matter and ecosystem support
Matter is the cross-brand standard from the Connectivity Standards Alliance. The CSA describes it as a way for "devices from multiple brands" to "work natively together" over Wi-Fi and Thread.
- Govee: the H6008 and H600A bulbs, Strip Light 2, TV Backlight 3 and Permanent Outdoor Lights Pro all list Matter on their product pages, alongside Alexa and Google Assistant.
- Hue: lists Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home, SmartThings, IFTTT, Sonos and Matter. Its product pages list the Hue Bridge as required for voice assistants, and the Bridge brings every Hue light to Matter. Matter-enabled bulbs such as the Essential A19 can also join a Matter controller directly through a Thread border router, without a Bridge.

Local control
Hue: the Bridge exposes a local API. Home Assistant classifies its Hue integration as "Local Push", and newer square Bridges push state changes over a local event stream.
Govee: many Wi-Fi models support LAN control, which you turn on per device in the Govee Home app. Home Assistant's "Govee lights local" integration works over your network without the cloud and lists 191 supported models, including the H6008, H6006 and H600A bulbs. Not every Govee product supports it, so check your model before relying on it.
Bulbs
For a standard A19 color bulb, the Govee H6008 (800 lm, 2700 to 6500 K, Wi-Fi + Bluetooth, Matter) is the budget pick at $32.99 for four. The Govee H6006 is a 1000 lm step up that Govee rates at CRI 90+.
The Hue Essential A19 (800 lm, 2200 to 6500 K, dims to 2%) costs more but joins the Hue Zigbee system and carries a 2 year warranty. Hue's top 60W A19 bulb adds Chromasync color, a 1000 to 20000 K white range and dimming to 0.2%, with a 3 year warranty. It costs $147.99 for three.

Strip lights
Govee Strip Light 2 comes in 9.8, 16.4, 32.8 and 65.6 ft lengths ($42.99 to $119.99). Govee rates it at 155 lm per meter with RGBWWIC LEDs, 100+ scene modes and Matter.
Hue's Flux strip light 16 ft lists 2000 lm at 6500 K for $99.99 and works with the rest of the Hue system.
If brightness per dollar matters most, Govee's Strip Light 2 Pro (340 lm per meter, 60 LEDs per meter) lists at $49.99 to $119.99 depending on length. More picks: best LED strip lights for home.
TV backlights and entertainment sync
This is where the two brands differ most in how you buy.
Govee TV Backlight 3 is one box: a dual camera plus an RGBWIC strip, $109.99 for 55 to 65 in TVs or $139.99 for 75 to 85 in TVs. It lists Matter and syncs up to 10 Govee devices through DreamView.
Hue gives you three ways to sync:
- Play screen sync ($119.99): a camera that sits on the TV.
- Play HDMI sync box ($149.99 for 4K, $384.99 for 8K): reads the video signal directly.
- Hue Sync TV app on compatible Samsung and LG TVs (Hue Bridge required).
Each route then needs a light. Hue's new Play gradient strip light ($149.99 for up to 85") and the pro version ($179.99 for up to 65") are listed but show as not yet in stock on philips-hue.com. The older Play gradient lightstrip 55" ($274.99) is listed as no longer available and requires a Hue Bridge and a Hue sync box. With a Hue Bridge, Hue's sync devices can drive up to 10 color Hue lights. Without a Bridge, you can sync one compatible Hue strip.

Who should buy which
- Buy Govee if you are on a budget, want TV backlighting without extra hardware, or mostly want color effects for a bedroom, desk or gaming setup. Start with best Govee smart lights.
- Buy Philips Hue if you are lighting a whole home, want switches and motion sensors in the same system, or want local control through a hub. The longer warranty also helps with bulbs you plan to keep for years.
- Mix both if you use a Matter controller. For example, Hue in main rooms and Govee strips or a TV backlight where price matters more.

What we don't know
- Long-term reliability. Owner discussions on both brands are easy to find, but there is no independent failure-rate data we can cite.
- Measured color accuracy. Govee rates its H6006 bulb at CRI 90+, and Hue lists a CRI of 80 or higher on the Essential A19 and its strip lights. We found no independent side-by-side measurements.
- New Hue strip availability. The Play gradient strip light and pro versions show as not yet in stock; we don't have a ship date.
- Govee outdoor warranty. Govee's warranty chart lists 12 months for strips, lamps and bulbs, but it does not name permanent outdoor lights.
- LAN control on newer Govee models. Strip Light 2 and TV Backlight 3 are not on Home Assistant's Govee lights local list, and we could not confirm LAN support for them elsewhere.

Do Govee lights need a hub?
No. Govee lights connect directly to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and also use Bluetooth. Most Philips Hue lights work over Bluetooth without a hub (up to 10 lights per phone), but remote access, full automations, entertainment sync and Matter for the whole system need the Hue Bridge ($69.99, or $139.99 for Bridge Pro, as of September 2026). Matter-enabled Hue bulbs such as the Essential A19 can also pair directly with a Thread border router. Some Hue products, including Festavia permanent outdoor lights, require a Bridge.
Will Govee work with Philips Hue?
Not inside each other's apps. Both support Matter, though: the Govee models on this page list Matter, and Hue joins Matter through the Hue Bridge or, for Matter-enabled bulbs such as the Essential A19, directly through a Thread border router. Does Govee work with Apple HomeKit?
Govee models that list Matter support can be added to Apple Home through Matter. That includes the H6008 and H600A bulbs, Strip Light 2 and TV Backlight 3. Philips Hue works with Apple Home through the Hue Bridge, and Matter-enabled Hue bulbs can also be added directly through Matter with a Thread border router.
Is the Govee TV backlight as good as Hue Sync?
They are built differently. As of September 2026, Govee TV Backlight 3 is one $109.99 kit with its own camera for 55 to 65 in TVs. Hue sells the sync device (a $119.99 camera, $149.99 to $384.99 HDMI sync boxes, or a TV app on some Samsung and LG sets) and the strip separately. Hue can sync up to 10 Hue lights with a Bridge.
Which is cheaper, Govee or Philips Hue permanent outdoor lights?
They are close. As of September 2026, Hue Festavia permanent outdoor lights sell for $399.99 for 90 ft (48 lights), and Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights Pro sell for $439.99 for 100 ft (60 lights).
