Best Video Doorbell in 2026: Smart Doorbell Cameras Compared

The short answer

Two things decide which video doorbell fits your door: whether you have doorbell wiring, and whether you will pay monthly to keep recordings.

• Best overall (wired): Google Nest Doorbell (wired, 3rd gen). $199.99 on the Google Store. 2K video, smart alerts and 6 hours of event previews with no plan.
• Best battery doorbell: Ring Battery Doorbell 4K Pro. $149.99 on sale at ring.com (regular $249.99). 4K video and radar-based motion detection. Recording needs a Ring plan from $4.99 a month.
• Best value: TP-Link Tapo D225. $99.99 on sale at TP-Link's Tapo store (regular $129.99). Battery or wired, 2K, and it records to a microSD card.
• Best for packages: eufy Video Doorbell E340. $149.99 on eufy.com. A second, downward-facing camera watches the doorstep, and clips save to 8 GB of built-in storage.
• Best for Apple Home: Aqara Doorbell Camera G400 (Wired). $99.99 on us.aqara.com. Supports HomeKit Secure Video.
• Best budget: Wyze Video Doorbell v2. $59.98 on wyze.com. Wired, 2K, with continuous recording to a microSD card.
• Best for ecobee homes: ecobee Smart Doorbell Camera (wired). $119.99 on sale at ecobee.com (regular $159.99). Shows live video on ecobee's Smart Thermostat Premium.
• Best for your own recorder: Reolink Video Doorbell WiFi. $129.99 on sale at Reolink's US store (regular $139.99). Records 24/7 to a microSD card, a Reolink NVR or a NAS.

All prices are from each maker's own store as of October 2026. The Ring, TP-Link, ecobee and Reolink prices were sale prices that day, so expect them to move.

Google Nest Doorbell (wired, 3rd gen): best overall

Who it's for: Homes with working doorbell wiring that want smart alerts and a short video history without a monthly bill. Of the cloud-based brands here (Google, Ring, ecobee), Google's are the only doorbells that include saved clips with no plan.

Key facts

• $199.99 on the Google Store as of October 2026, in Snow, Hazel or Linen.
• 2K (2048 x 2048) sensor with a 1:1 aspect ratio, a 166° diagonal field of view, HDR and 6x digital zoom.
• Included without a plan: alerts for people, packages, animals and vehicles, Activity Zones, and up to 6 hours of event video previews with clips up to 10 seconds.
• As of October 2026, Google Home Premium Standard ($10 a month or $100 a year) extends that to 30 days of event history. Advanced ($20 a month or $200 a year) gives 60 days of event history plus up to 10 days of 24/7 video history.
• Needs a 16 to 24 VAC, 10 to 40 VA doorbell transformer. Rated IP65, with 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
• Google says it works with its Gemini for Home voice assistant and is compatible with Alexa.

Trade-offs: It requires the Google Home app and a Google Account, and Gemini features such as searchable history need Google Home Premium. No wiring? The Nest Doorbell (battery) is also $199.99 on the Google Store. It records at 960 x 1280 with a 145° diagonal view, includes 3 hours of event video history and is rated IP54. Google says it cannot record 24/7, and your existing chime will not ring unless you connect the doorbell wires.

Ring Battery Doorbell 4K Pro: best battery doorbell

Who it's for: Doors with no wiring, and homes that already use Ring cameras or a Ring Alarm.

Key facts

• $149.99 on ring.com as of October 2026. That is a sale price: Ring lists the regular price as $249.99.
• 4K video with up to 10x Enhanced Zoom and a 140° horizontal by 140° vertical head-to-toe view.
• Radar-based 3D Motion Detection, which Ring says reduces false alerts and detects people, packages and vehicles.
• Runs on a removable Quick Release Ultra Battery Pack. It can also be wired to an 8 to 24 VAC doorbell transformer.
• Wi-Fi 6 on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Ring recommends an upload speed of at least 15 Mbps for its 4K devices.

Trade-offs: Ring says basic features work without a subscription, but a Ring Protect plan is required for video recording and person alerts. Ring Solo covers one device for $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year as of October 2026. Ring's page did not give a battery life figure on the day we checked.

Have wiring? The Ring Wired Doorbell 4K Pro costs the same ($149.99 on sale, regular $249.99), records at 2880 x 2880 and includes Ring's Chime Kit Mini. Ring says it works with Alexa-enabled devices.

Spending less? On ring.com as of October 2026, the Ring Battery Doorbell 2K was $39.99 on sale (regular $99.99) and the Wired Doorbell 2K was $39.99 on sale (regular $79.99). TP-Link Tapo D225: best value

Who it's for: Anyone who wants 2K video, smart alerts and saved recordings for about $100, with or without doorbell wiring.

Key facts

• $99.99 on TP-Link's Tapo store (us.store.tapo.com) as of October 2026. That is a sale price: the store lists $129.99 as the regular price. An indoor chime is included.
• 2K (4MP) video with a 180° diagonal field of view (170.6° horizontal, 140.1° vertical) and built-in spotlights for color night vision.
• Battery or hardwired. TP-Link claims up to 8 months per charge from the 10,000 mAh battery, and 24/7 continuous recording when hardwired.
• Records to a microSD card of up to 512 GB (not included). Tapo Care cloud storage is optional.
• TP-Link says on-device AI tags people, packages and vehicles without a subscription.
• Rated IP66. Works with Alexa and Google Assistant.

eufy Video Doorbell E340: best for packages

Who it's for: Homes where parcels get left right at the door.

Key facts

• $149.99 on eufy.com as of October 2026.
• Two cameras: a front-facing 2K camera for people and a downward-facing camera for the floor in front of your door. eufy lists a 160° viewing angle.
• 8 GB of built-in storage. eufy says that holds 90 days of video at an average of 30 clips of 20 seconds a day.
• Battery or wired, with a removable battery pack.
• Human and package detection, color night vision with a claimed range of up to 16 ft (5 m), and an IP65 rating.
• Supports Alexa and Google Assistant.

Trade-offs: eufy says the E340 does not support Apple HomeKit and only connects to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. The battery must stay installed even in wired mode. See Ring vs eufy for how the two brands differ.

Aqara Doorbell Camera G400 (Wired): best for Apple Home

Who it's for: Apple Home households that want HomeKit Secure Video.

Key facts

• $99.99 on us.aqara.com as of October 2026.
• Compatible with Apple HomeKit Secure Video. Aqara notes that this needs an iCloud+ plan and an Apple home hub.
• 2K video with a 165° diagonal field of view in a 3:4 aspect ratio.
• Powered over Ethernet (PoE) or by existing 8 to 24 V doorbell wiring. Supports 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi 6.
• 24/7 continuous recording to a microSD card of up to 512 GB (not included), with automatic backup to an SMB NAS server.
• Also compatible with Alexa, Google Assistant and SmartThings, with RTSP and ONVIF support.
• Rated IP65, with a plug-in chime in the box.

Wyze Video Doorbell v2: best budget

Who it's for: Homes with doorbell wiring that want 2K video and local recording for under $60.

Key facts

• $59.98 on wyze.com as of October 2026 for the doorbell and chime controller.
• 2K (2048 x 1536) video with a 166.8° diagonal field of view (135° horizontal, 103° vertical).
• Continuous 24/7 recording to a microSD card of up to 256 GB.
• Wyze says it works with your existing doorbell chime.
• Rated IP65. Integrations: Alexa, Google Assistant and IFTTT.

Trade-offs: It is wired only (16 to 24 V AC, at least 10 VA) and uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Cloud event video and person, package and vehicle notifications come with Cam Plus, which renews at $2.99 a month per camera after a free first month (wyze.com, October 2026).

ecobee Smart Doorbell Camera (wired): best for ecobee homes

Who it's for: Homes with an ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium, which can show the doorbell's live view on its screen.

Key facts

• $119.99 on ecobee.com as of October 2026. That is a sale price: ecobee lists the regular price as $159.99.
• 1080p HDR video in a 3:4 portrait aspect ratio, with a 187° diagonal field of view (175° vertical, 115° horizontal).
• The free Core tier includes motion and person detection, two-way talk and live view on the Smart Thermostat Premium.
• Smart Security Plus ($5 a month or $50 a year as of October 2026) adds 30 days of video history for one camera and package detection.
• No battery. It needs a 16 to 24 VAC doorbell transformer of at least 10 VA.
• Rated IP65, with dual-band Wi-Fi and a 3-year limited warranty.

Trade-offs: ecobee lists Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa and Google Home, but says HomeKit Secure Video is not supported. The free tier keeps no video history. Video is 1080p, where most picks here are 2K or higher.

Reolink Video Doorbell WiFi: best for your own recorder

Who it's for: People who want continuous recording on hardware they own.

Key facts

• $129.99 on Reolink's US store (store.reolink.com) as of October 2026. That is a sale price: the store lists $139.99 as the regular price.
• 5 MP video (2560 x 1920) with a 180° diagonal field of view (135° horizontal, 100° vertical).
• Records 24/7, on motion or on a schedule to a microSD card (up to 256 GB), a Reolink NVR, a Reolink Home Hub Pro or an FTP or NAS server, with no monthly fee for local storage.
• Reolink says detection of people, vehicles and animals works without monthly fees.
• Powered by existing doorbell wiring or the included adapter. Dual-band Wi-Fi plus an Ethernet port, and a plug-in chime is included.
• RTSP and ONVIF support, an IP65 rating and a 2-year limited warranty.

Trade-offs: There is no battery option. Reolink lists Google Assistant support and says Alexa devices can act as a chime. Reolink says the black model has a 4:3 view and the white model a 3:4 head-to-toe view.

What a plan costs

Ring is the brand where the plan matters most: without one, nothing is recorded. Google and ecobee include smart alerts without a plan. Google charges for longer history, and ecobee charges for any video history. The Tapo, eufy, Aqara, Wyze and Reolink doorbells record to local storage.

Ring says a free 30-day trial of Ring Protect comes with any Ring doorbell, unless you already have a subscription at that location.

How to choose

1. Check for wiring. With a working wired doorbell you can use the wired Nest, Wyze v2, Aqara G400 or ecobee. Check the transformer first: Google asks for 16 to 24 VAC at 10 to 40 VA, ecobee and Wyze for 16 to 24 VAC and at least 10 VA. No wiring? Pick a battery model, or the Reolink, which includes a power adapter.
2. Know what battery power costs you. Battery doorbells need recharging: TP-Link claims up to 8 months per charge for the Tapo D225 and Wyze up to 6 months. The doorbells here whose product pages list 24/7 recording (Wyze v2, Aqara G400, Reolink, a hardwired Tapo D225 and the wired Nest with the Advanced plan) all need wired power to do it.
3. Decide how you want to keep video. Pay monthly for cloud history (Ring, Google, ecobee), or buy a doorbell that saves to a card or its own memory (Tapo, eufy, Aqara, Wyze, Reolink).
4. Match your smart home. Google's doorbells live in the Google Home app. Ring says all of its video doorbells work with Alexa-enabled devices. For Apple Home, the Aqara G400 has HomeKit Secure Video.
5. Look at the shape of the view, not just the resolution. A square (1:1) or portrait (3:4) image shows a visitor head to toe and the ground where parcels sit. The wired Nest and Ring's Wired Doorbell 4K Pro are 1:1. The Aqara, ecobee and Nest battery models are 3:4.
6. Check your chime and Wi-Fi. Ring says its Wired Doorbell 2K does not support mechanical chimes, and Aqara says the G400 does not work with a traditional chime. The eufy E340, Tapo D225, Wyze v2 and both Ring 2K doorbells use 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only. Ring recommends 15 Mbps of upload speed for its 4K doorbells and 10 Mbps for its 2K models.

What we could not verify

• The Nest price in Google's own FAQ. The Google Store buy button showed $199.99 for both Nest doorbells, while an FAQ on the wired model's page listed $179.99 for each. We use the buy button price.
• Arlo. As of October 2026, Arlo's product page listed its Video Doorbell at $29.50 on sale (original price $79.99), but its specifications did not load for us, so it is not ranked. Our Arlo vs Ring comparison covers the brand.
• Blink. As of October 2026, Blink's product listing shows a Battery Doorbell 2K+ starting at $79.99 and a Wired Doorbell 2K+, but that listing gives no field of view, storage or plan details, so they are not ranked. See Blink vs Ring.
• Battery life on the Ring and Nest battery doorbells. Ring's battery doorbell pages gave no battery life figure on the day we checked, and neither did Google's battery model page.
• The older Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2. Ring now calls it the Wired Doorbell Pro (1536p, 150° by 150° view). In October 2026 its page showed $129.99 (was $229.99) with a notify-me form in place of an add to cart button, so we did not rank it.
• Tapo Care and HomeGuardian pricing, and real-world performance. We did not check Tapo Care or Aqara HomeGuardian prices. Alert speed, motion accuracy and video quality in daily use do not show up in published specs, and HomeGearLab did not measure them.
