Best Smart Toilet in 2026: 8 Smart Toilets and Bidet Seats Compared

By Ethan Halfhide · Updated

The best smart toilet for most homes is the Kohler Leap ($2,499.97 on kohler.com as of October 2026): heated seat, warm-air dryer, a self-cleaning bidet wand, a hands-free lid and an emergency flush for power outages. The TOTO NEOREST RS is the luxury pick, the HOROW T38 ($999 on horow.com as of October 2026) is the pick under $1,000, and if you want to keep your toilet, the Bio Bidet BB-2000 seat ($549 on biobidet.com as of October 2026) adds the washing and heated seat for less. Below, eight options compared on price, rough-in, power needs and what happens when the power goes out.

The short answer

A smart toilet is a toilet with a bidet built in: warm-water washing, a heated seat, a warm-air dryer, a lid that opens on its own and an automatic flush. A bidet seat adds most of the washing and comfort features to the toilet you already have. Here is how eight current options compare on published specs.

  • Best overall: Kohler Leap. $2,499.97 on kohler.com. Heated seat, warm-air dryer, a stainless steel wand that Kohler says cleans itself with UV light, a hands-free lid, and an emergency flush that Kohler says covers up to 100 flushes in a power outage.
  • Best luxury pick: TOTO NEOREST RS. $6,932 MSRP. TOTO's EWATER+ cleans the wand, the bowl and under the seat after every use, and it flushes on 1.0 or 0.8 gallons.
  • Best TOTO for less: TOTO WASHLET G5A Lite. $3,570 MSRP. Heated seat, dryer, auto lid and auto flush with a manual outage backup.
  • Best under $1,000: HOROW T38. $999 on horow.com. A built-in tank and pump, heated seat, UV nozzle cleaning, mood lighting and a 1.06 gallon flush.
  • Best for a 10-inch rough-in: HOROW T37. $1,269. Made for bathrooms where the drain sits 10 inches from the wall.
  • Best mid-price combo: Alpha Bidet UXT Pearl. $1,799 on alphabidet.com. Motorized seat and lid, auto flush, two user presets and a 3-year residential warranty.
  • Best bidet seat: Bio Bidet BB-2000. $549. Fits round or elongated toilets, heated seat, dryer, deodorizer and a 3-year warranty.
  • Best app-controlled bidet seat: Bio Bidet BB-1200. $339 (list $399). The only pick here that lists phone control, through the Bemis Living App over Bluetooth.

All prices are as of October 2026. TOTO shows MSRP list prices and sells through retailers, so store prices can differ. The others are each maker's own US store price.

"Not stated" means the maker's product page and spec sheet did not say, not that the feature is missing. Rough-in is the distance from the finished wall to the center of the drain; measure yours before you order.

Smart toilet vs bidet seat

A smart toilet is one fixture: bowl, flush and bidet electronics together. You get things a seat cannot add, such as an automatic flush and a bowl misted before use (TOTO's PREMIST, for example). You also replace the whole toilet, which means a plumber or a confident DIYer.

A bidet seat replaces only the seat on the toilet you have. Bio Bidet says its seats fit most one and two-piece toilets, and says BB-2000 setup takes about 30 minutes with the included hardware. You keep your existing flush, so a power cut never stops the toilet from flushing. You still need an outlet near the toilet for the heated seat, warm water and dryer.

Prices show the gap: the two Bio Bidet seats cost $339 and $549, the smart toilets here start at $999, and TOTO's flagship NEOREST NX2 lists at $26,279. TOTO's own WASHLET S7A seat lists at $2,005 MSRP in white (both TOTO list prices as of October 2026).

One more point on "smart": none of the six toilets here list Wi-Fi, an app or Alexa or Google Assistant support on the pages checked. Their smarts are sensors and a remote. Of the eight picks, only the Bio Bidet BB-1200 lists phone control.

Kohler Leap: best overall

Who it's for: People who want a full smart toilet with every comfort feature at a lower price than most big-brand models, in a bathroom with a standard 12-inch rough-in.

Key facts

  • $2,499.97 on kohler.com as of October 2026 (model K-28529-0, white). Kohler offers a Standard Bidet or a Dual Wand Bidet version.
  • Stainless steel wand with adjustable spray shape, position, water pressure, temperature, pulsate and oscillate. Kohler says it cleans the wand surfaces with UV light.
  • Motion-activated cover that opens and closes hands-free, heated seat with adjustable temperature, warm-air drying and automatic deodorization.
  • Flushes automatically after every use, or from the remote or a backup button. Dual flush at 1.0 or 1.28 gallons.
  • Kohler says the emergency flush supports up to 100 flushes during a power outage.
  • Comfort Height (chair height) seating and an elongated bowl. 12-inch rough-in.
  • Requires a dedicated 120 V, 15 A, 60 Hz GFCI circuit.
  • Three-year limited warranty.

Trade-offs: A dedicated 15 A circuit is a bigger ask than a spare outlet, and may mean hiring an electrician.

TOTO NEOREST RS: best luxury pick

Who it's for: A main bathroom where cleaning less matters as much as comfort, and the budget allows it.

Key facts

  • $6,932 MSRP on totousa.com as of October 2026 (MS8341CUMFG).
  • EWATER+ auto-cleans the wand, the bowl and the area under the seat after every use. TOTO describes EWATER+ as electrolyzed water that produces hypochlorous acid.
  • HYBRID ECOLOGY SYSTEM: TOTO describes a pressure-independent electric flush paired with TORNADO FLUSH, at 1.0 or 0.8 gallons.
  • Auto flush with a back-up manual flush for power outages. Touchless auto open and close lid, PREMIST, heated seat with temperature control, warm air dryer with five temperature settings and an automatic deodorizer.
  • Remote with memory settings for up to 4 users.
  • 120 V, 60 Hz, 1290 W. TOTO says a 120VAC GFCI outlet is required, and the center of the drain should be at least 12 inches from the baseboard.
  • Three-year limited residential warranty.

Trade-offs: The price, and TOTO's own price is MSRP only; it sells through retailers, whose prices can differ. The spec sheet also recommends a surge protector.

TOTO WASHLET G5A Lite: best TOTO for less

Who it's for: TOTO fans who want an integrated smart toilet at about half the NEOREST RS list price.

Key facts

  • $3,570 MSRP on totousa.com as of October 2026 (MS7421CEMFG).
  • TORNADO FLUSH at 1.2 or 1.0 gallons, CEFIONTECT glaze that TOTO says keeps waste from sticking, and a 12-inch rough-in.
  • Auto flush with a back-up manual flush for power outages. Touchless auto open and close lid.
  • EWATER+ auto-cleans the wand after every use (TOTO does not list bowl cleaning on this model). PREMIST mists the bowl before each use.
  • Front and rear warm-water spray, heated seat with temperature control, warm air dryer with three settings, automatic deodorizer and memory settings for up to 4 users.
  • 120 V, 60 Hz, 1276 W, with a 3.9 ft power cord.

Trade-offs: The spec sheet lists a one-year limited warranty, shorter than Kohler's three years and the NEOREST RS. EWATER+ covers the wand only, and the dryer has three settings, not five.

HOROW T38: best under $1,000

Who it's for: People who want a full smart toilet on a tighter budget, including homes with weaker water flow.

Key facts

  • $999 on horow.com as of October 2026.
  • Built-in water tank and pump that HOROW says supports flushing when household water flow or pressure varies. 1.06 gallons per flush.
  • Auto open and close lid, heated seat with 4 temperature levels, front and rear wash, UV nozzle cleaning, warm air dryer with 4 levels, auto deodorization, pre-wet, night light and mood lighting.
  • 12-inch rough-in. Needs 11.6 to 108 psi water pressure, with at least 3.65 GPM at the minimum.
  • 15 A at 120 V, with a 35-7/16 inch power cord.
  • WaterSense certified, according to HOROW.

Trade-offs: It flushes in a power outage only if you buy and install the separate battery pack, which HOROW says gives about 200 flushes when new. HOROW notes the bidet still needs its stated water pressure even with the pump.

HOROW T37: best for a 10-inch rough-in

Who it's for: Bathrooms where the drain is 10 inches from the wall.

Key facts

  • $1,269 on horow.com as of October 2026.
  • Designed for a 10-inch (250 mm) rough-in. HOROW says to measure from the finished wall to the center of the drain before ordering.
  • Tankless, fed straight from the water supply. Dual flush at 1.0 or 1.28 gallons.
  • Heated seat with 4 levels, automatic lid, rear and wide front wash, warm air dryer, deodorizer, and four ways to flush: auto, foot sensor, remote and a manual knob.
  • HOROW says it flushes during a power outage using the 9 V battery included in the box.
  • AC 120 V, 10 A, a grounded outlet and 20.3 to 108 psi water pressure. Seat height 16-1/8 inches.

Trade-offs: Tankless means it needs at least 20.3 psi, higher than the T38's 11.6 psi minimum. For a 12-inch rough-in, HOROW says to choose a model specified for 12 inches.

Alpha Bidet UXT Pearl: best mid-price combo

Who it's for: Buyers who want a full set of automatic features between the HOROW and Kohler prices.

Key facts

  • $1,799 on alphabidet.com as of October 2026.
  • Automatic, motorized seat and lid, automatic flushing at 1.28 gallons, and a multi-function foot sensor.
  • Rear and front wash with nozzle oscillation, heated seat, DirectDry warm air dryer with adjustable speed and temperature, photocatalyst deodorizer and a self-cleaning stainless steel nozzle.
  • Two programmable user presets.
  • 12-inch rough-in, 17.4 inch seat height (Alpha says ADA compliant). 110 to 120 V, 1170 W max, 15 to 85 psi, a 5 ft cord with a 3-prong grounded plug.
  • 3-year residential warranty covering parts and labor, according to Alpha.

Trade-offs: Alpha's page does not say whether it flushes in a power outage. It weighs 110 lbs, and Alpha says to use its supplied angle valve and hose rather than your old supply line.

Bio Bidet BB-2000: best bidet seat

Who it's for: Anyone whose toilet works fine and who wants warm-water washing and a heated seat without replacing it.

Key facts

  • $549 on biobidet.com as of October 2026, in round or elongated.
  • Remote control, stainless steel nozzle, adjustable water pressure and nozzle position, rear and front wash, massage and vortex wash.
  • Heated seat, warm air dryer, deodorizer, night light, slow-closing seat and lid, seat sensor and unlimited warm water.
  • Needs a nearby GFCI outlet. The cord is 4 feet long.
  • Bio Bidet says setup takes about 30 minutes with the included hardware.
  • 3-year warranty and a 30-day no-risk trial, according to Bio Bidet.

Trade-offs: No auto open lid or auto flush, since it uses your toilet's flush. A 4-foot cord means the outlet has to be close.

Bio Bidet BB-1200: best app-controlled bidet seat

Who it's for: Smart home fans who want to set wash presets from a phone, at the lowest price on this page.

Key facts

  • $339 on biobidet.com as of October 2026, a sale price (list $399). Elongated only.
  • Connects over Bluetooth to the Bemis Living App on Apple and Android, where you can create and save presets. A wireless remote is included too.
  • Adjustable warm water, nozzle position and water pressure, heated seat, warm air dryer, night light and slow-closing seat and lid.
  • Needs a nearby GFCI outlet, with a 4-foot cord.

Trade-offs: A 1-year warranty, against 3 years on the BB-2000. The app connects over Bluetooth, and Bio Bidet does not list Wi-Fi or voice assistant support.

What you need before installing

An outlet near the toilet. Every pick here needs electricity. Kohler's Leap needs a dedicated 120 V, 15 A GFCI circuit. TOTO says the NEOREST RS needs a 120VAC GFCI outlet, and says its WASHLET S7A seat needs a 120 V GFCI outlet behind the toilet. Bio Bidet says its seats need a nearby GFCI outlet within reach of a 4-foot cord. Published cord lengths run from 33-7/16 inches (HOROW T37) to 5 ft (Alpha), so the outlet has to be close. If there is no outlet behind your toilet, budget for an electrician.

Water supply and pressure. Smart toilets connect to the same shutoff valve as a normal toilet, but several have pressure limits: 7.25 psi minimum flowing for the TOTO models, 11.6 psi for the HOROW T38, 15 psi for the Alpha UXT Pearl and 20.3 psi for the tankless HOROW T37. Kohler and Alpha both say to use the supply hoses that come with the toilet, not your old one.

Rough-in. Measure from the finished wall (not the baseboard) to the center of the drain. Most picks need 12 inches. The HOROW T37 is the 10-inch option. For the NEOREST RS, TOTO says the drain center should be at least 12 inches from the baseboard.

How to choose

  1. Decide seat or toilet. If your toilet is in good shape, a bidet seat (the Bio Bidet BB-2000 or BB-1200) gets you warm water and a heated seat for a few hundred dollars. Replace the toilet if you want auto flush, an auto lid and a bowl built around the bidet.
  2. Measure the rough-in first. It rules models in or out faster than features do. A 10-inch rough-in points to the HOROW T37.
  3. Check the outlet. A dedicated circuit (Kohler Leap) or a GFCI outlet behind the toilet (TOTO) may add an electrician to the job.
  4. Think about outages. If your power goes out often, pick a model with a listed backup flush, or plan on the HOROW T38's battery pack.
  5. Compare warranties. One year on the TOTO G5A Lite and Bio Bidet BB-1200, three years on the Kohler Leap, NEOREST RS, Alpha UXT Pearl and BB-2000.
  6. Do not expect smart home integration. If phone control matters, the BB-1200 is the only pick that lists it. For other bathroom upgrades, see our bathroom device picks, and since every one of these connects to a water line, a sensor from our water leak detector guide is a cheap add-on.

What we don't know

  • Real-world wash comfort, noise and reliability. These take months of use to judge. This page compares published information only.
  • Street prices for TOTO. TOTO's site shows MSRP list prices; retailer and showroom prices can be lower or higher, and we did not check them.
  • Kohler Leap dual-wand pricing. Kohler lists Standard and Dual Wand Bidet versions; the $2,499.97 price was the one shown for model K-28529-0.
  • Alpha UXT Pearl outage flushing. Alpha's page does not say whether it can flush without power.
  • Kohler's other smart toilets. Kohler lists ten intelligent toilets, including Veil, Eir and Numi 2.0. We did not verify their features or voice assistant support.
  • Installation cost. None of the maker pages checked list install prices. It depends on your plumber, and on whether you need a new outlet or circuit.

How this page was put together

HomeGearLab does not test products in a lab or at home. This page compares each maker's US product pages, spec sheets and US store or list prices, all fetched on October 15, 2026. Picks are based on what each maker publishes about features, rough-in, power, outage flushing, warranty and price. Claims are attributed to the maker that made them. Frequently asked questions

What is the best smart toilet?

For most homes, the Kohler Leap ($2,499.97 on kohler.com as of October 2026): heated seat, warm-air dryer, a stainless steel wand Kohler says cleans itself with UV light, a motion-activated lid and an emergency flush Kohler says covers up to 100 flushes in an outage. For luxury, the TOTO NEOREST RS ($6,932 MSRP as of October 2026). Under $1,000, the HOROW T38 ($999 on horow.com as of October 2026).

What features do smart toilets have?

Most combine a toilet with a built-in bidet: warm-water front and rear washing with adjustable pressure, temperature and nozzle position, a heated seat, a warm-air dryer, a deodorizer, a night light and a remote. Many add a lid that opens when you approach, an automatic flush, and wand self-cleaning (UV light on the Kohler Leap and HOROW T38, EWATER+ electrolyzed water on TOTO models). None of the six toilets on this page list Wi-Fi or voice assistant support.

What is the downside of a bidet toilet?

Cost and installation. As of October 2026, the smart toilets on this page run from $999 (maker store price) to $6,932 (TOTO MSRP), against $339 to $549 for a bidet seat. They need an electrical outlet near the toilet, and the Kohler Leap needs a dedicated 120 V, 15 A GFCI circuit. Some also have water pressure minimums, and some only flush in an outage with a battery, such as the HOROW T38's optional battery pack.

Can a smart toilet flush without electricity?

Many can, but check the model. TOTO lists a back-up manual flush for power outages on the NEOREST RS and WASHLET G5A Lite. Kohler says the Leap's emergency flush supports up to 100 flushes during an outage. HOROW says the T37 flushes on an included 9 V battery, while the T38 needs a battery pack sold separately. A bidet seat never affects flushing, because your toilet's normal flush still works.

Do smart toilets need an outlet?

Yes. Every smart toilet and electric bidet seat on this page needs an electrical outlet near the toilet. TOTO says the NEOREST RS needs a 120VAC GFCI outlet, Kohler says the Leap needs a dedicated 120 V, 15 A GFCI circuit, and Bio Bidet says its seats need a nearby GFCI outlet within reach of a 4-foot cord. If there is no outlet behind your toilet, plan for an electrician.

How much does it cost to install a smart toilet?

The fixture itself ranges from $999 (HOROW T38) to $6,932 MSRP (TOTO NEOREST RS) among the picks here, as of October 2026. None of the maker pages checked list installation prices. Labor depends on your plumber, and the total rises if you need a new GFCI outlet or a dedicated circuit, or if your rough-in does not match the toilet. Bio Bidet says its BB-2000 seat is designed for DIY installation and takes about 30 minutes to set up.
