About

The Kwikset Halo Select is a touchscreen smart deadbolt with Wi-Fi and Matter built in. On Wi-Fi it needs no hub: the Kwikset app handles remote lock and unlock, guest access, the event log and a door-shut check. You can instead switch it to Matter over Thread to use it in Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home or SmartThings; Kwikset says you choose Matter or Wi-Fi connectivity, and Matter needs a compatible smart home hub with Thread and Matter support.

Kwikset lists up to 250 temporary, scheduled or permanent access codes, geofence auto-unlock, auto-lock on a timer or by location, intrusion alerts for invalid codes or tampering, and a slim door sensor that sends a phone alert if the door is left ajar for 15 minutes. The backlit touchscreen is UV-, water- and humidity-resistant. The lock meets BHMA Grade AAA, carries a UL 20-minute fire rating, runs on 4 AA batteries (included) and comes with 2 SmartKey Security keys that you can re-key yourself.

It costs $259 on kwikset.com as of October 2026, in Satin Nickel or Matte Black.

Setup and compatibility notes

  • Install: Kwikset says it installs in minutes with just a screwdriver, with an interactive in-app installation guide. Its spec table lists door thickness 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches and a 2-1/8 inch cross bore with an adjustable backset.
  • Wi-Fi or Matter: the lock starts on Wi-Fi. To use Matter, open Lock Settings in the Kwikset app, tap Matter Integration and follow the steps; the lock then pairs over Thread using the Matter QR code on the lock. You can convert it back to Wi-Fi from the same menu.
  • Feature support over Matter: Kwikset calls Matter an evolving standard and says some platforms may not yet support every lock feature, so check its per-platform table at kwikset.com/matter before switching.
  • Local control: Kwikset says Thread gives local control, so Matter devices keep working when the internet is down.
  • App: the Kwikset app is on the App Store and Google Play.
